Fig. 23.45 Carcinoma of the thyroid: ΓÇÿsnow stormΓÇÖ appearance of pulmonary metastases. This PA chest film shows multiple small nodular opacities throughout both lungs, most marked at the bases, the characteristic ΓÇÿsnow stormΓÇÖ appearance of pulmonary metastases from carcinoma of the thyroid. Such metastatic deposits may remain unchanged over a long period of time due to a very low grade of malignancy and may take up and be treated with 131I.
